Chapter 4

The night air was thick with silence, as if the Pampas itself was holding its breath. Tomás leaned heavily against Cami, his body weak but his grip strong.

Luna Brava stood guard beside them, her ears still flicking toward the darkened pins. The ghostly stallion was gone—but Cami couldn’t shake the feeling that something had been left behind.

“We need to get back to the ranch,” she said, steadying Tomás as he took a shaky step forward. “Can you ride?”

Tomás nodded weakly, his dark eyes still clouded with confusion… and something else.

“There was… someone,” he murmured. “Someone with me. In that pce.”

  Cami’s stomach twisted. “Who?”

Tomás opened his mouth to answer—then froze, his gaze snapping to the ground.

  The hoofprints.

The ghost horse’s tracks were still there, pressed deep into the damp soil. But as Cami followed their path with her eyes, her breath caught in her throat.

  The prints didn’t just disappear.

  They led somewhere.

Straight toward the old Estrel ranch.

A cold shiver ran through her. No one had lived there for decades—not since the st of the Estrel family vanished. People in town said it was cursed, that the nd had been cimed by spirits.

Cami had never believed those stories.

  Not until now.

Luna Brava suddenly snorted, pawing the ground as if she, too, had seen the tracks leading toward the ruins.

Tomás swallowed hard. “Cami… I think someone—or something—was trying to take me there.”

Cami’s fingers curled into Luna’s mane. Every instinct told her to turn back, to go home and pretend none of this had happened.

  But she couldn’t.

Not when there were still answers waiting in the dark.

She looked at her brother. “We’re following the tracks.”

  Tomás stiffened. “Cami—”

“No.” She met his gaze, voice steady. “That horse wasn’t just a ghost. It was a guide. Something—someone—wanted us to see what’s out there.”

For a long moment, Tomás was silent. Then, with a tired but determined nod, he swung himself onto Luna Brava’s back behind Cami.

  She clicked her tongue.

The mare surged forward, following the phantom hoofprints into the night.

  Toward the haunted ranch.

Toward whatever was waiting for them there.
