  June 26, 198 - Medali

Caln woke up at the crack of dawn like he usually did.

Just popped awake from sleep like a robot turning on.

Partly from eight years of living on the road, and partly because of his own OCD, but he had never been able to sleep in. Even before his transmigration he had been an early riser, though that was mostly because he didn’t have a car and had a two hour commute to office.

The first thing he did after rousing himself from bed, was to gently caress the two Indeedees softly snoring in their cots, stifling a smile as the younger of the two, the brother Indeedee turned away from the finger rubbing his cheek with an annoyed grunt.

Sister Indeedee was every bit the neat Pokémon she appeared to be. She slept properly, wrapped up in her little bnket like a fluffy sushi roll, completely dead to the world. Unlike her however, her brother’s usually stern fa?ade contrasted deeply with the way he slept.

Limbs akimbo and peacefully blissed out as he unconsciously nibbled on his favourite bnket.

And every morning, he would wake up and immediately regret how undignified he had been while asleep, but he would refuse to get rid of his bnkie. Instead, he would fold it neatly and hide it away under his pillow as if he was afraid it would be thrown away if his parents ever found it.

Indeed, if their parents were here, they probably would have thrown his bnkie away, but they weren’t, and Caln was perfectly happy to spoil them rotten. The two of them were still very young, barely a year old each and half the size of their parents, but as far as he was concerned, they could sleep however they liked, no matter how old they got, after all, he had essentially helped raise them both from their eggs.

Then he put on his running shoes and quietly stepped out of the cabin, taking his poke ball belt as he did so, and headed straight for the river about ten minutes away from the cabin where he spshed his face with cold water and shivered in the freezing morning air.

Once he was done, he released all his Pokémon, minus Sirfetch’d, so that they could wash up as well.

There was hot water avaible in the cabin of course, it was still hooked up to water and electricity when he arrived a week ago, but the size of the cabin meant that he would immediately wake the Indeedees up if he or his Pokémon tried washing up inside.

Once everyone had gotten spshed with cold water and shaken it off, it was time for their daily routine.

Everyone except Corviknight headed for the cabin to pick up bags of sand and began silently running ps around the property. The ghost types were mostly cheating, levitating the bags of sand as they floated along, while exercise of this level was meaningless for Spectrier, but it didn’t matter.

This exercise also helped build camaraderie amongst his team as they regurly breathed out clouds of mist that slowly evaporated in the cold morning air.

Unfortunately for Corviknight, he was unable to join them down on the ground as a bird type Pokémon. He was also carrying his own bags of sand, but he had his own routine in the skies above them. It mostly involved flying as fast as possible between a set of coordinates id out like a maze that required him to spin and turn on a dime in between powerful bursts of speed.

It was a rare morning where it wasn’t raining, and Caln was determined to take advantage of it.

By the time everyone had done 10 ps, the sun had fully come up and he could already hear the Indeedees bustling around inside the house, cooking breakfast for everyone.

Caln released Sirfetch’d and gathered everyone for a hearty breakfast of eggs, steak and potato.

By the time breakfast was done, Caln took a 15 minute break before they started the next phase of their morning routine.

Like well oiled clockwork, everyone except Sirfetch’d who was quietly roosting on the porch of the cabin, headed over to a spot in front of the cabin where there were 12 sticks buried in the ground, forming 6 parallel lines of about 25 metres each. The six lines formed 3 pairs of parallel lines.

Typically, Caln, Sirfetch’d, Galde and Gabite would begin doing 100 sets of push-ups, sit-ups and squats with bags of sand weighing them down, while Gengar, Dragapult, Weezing and Foongus would pair up and began repeatedly sprinting between two sticks.

While doing so, they would try their best to stop their partner by shooting darts of shadow, globs of poison or grass energy that didn’t do much more than sting. If any of them were tagged by a dart or globule, they would be forced to stop for 5 seconds, and this would continue until everyone of them had completed 100 ps.

Typically, Dragapult would finish first, being a fast-moving ghost type, but Gengar was more accurate and had better control, then Weezing and Foongus. Whoever finished first was allowed to just stand by and spam attacks to stop the ones who were still running.

It was a routine he had built over the past eight years, designed to improve everyone’s stamina, agility, control and precision.

Spectrier was free to do whatever they liked as long as they didn’t stray away too far, though once Gstrier arrived, the two Horse type Legendary Pokémon would probably be paired up with each other.

Or at least that was the pn.

Gstrier and Spectrier didn’t really get along with each other, and he would have to keep an eye on them until he was sure they wouldn’t destroy the entire training ground while ‘training’ …

To be blunt, he would never ask Pokémon who didn’t want to battle to join him in his training nor had he ever pnned on using either Gstrier or Spectrier in Pokémon battles. They had requested to join his training themselves, with Calyrex’s permission.

By the time his push-ups and squats were done, it was already te morning, the sun was well on its way up into the middle of the sky and his singlet was soaked, so he taken it off directly, leaving it to hang on a nearby tree to dry.

He was about to join Galde and Gabite in their own sprints when he heard a low whistle.

He immediately turned around and saw the source of the whistle and realized that the contractors had arrived.

A rge man, built like a rge barrel that indicated his great strength was waving to him, with a messy shock of dark brown hair that matched his daughter’s. Behind him, was Kelly, slightly flushed and peeking out from behind the man he presumed to be her father.

The two of them stopped a distance away, watching as his Pokémon continued their training,

Both of them were experienced trainers, and it was clear at a gnce that the Pokémon here were extremely well trained and disciplined, if the way they continued to focus on their own training, unbothered with the presence of strangers.

However, it was the man walking towards them that caught their eye.

The dark haired man was wearing nothing but a pair of shorts, exposing his chest and arms. Despite his lean build, his muscles bulged and looked like they were carved out of stone. His steps were light, but firm, contrasting deeply with his deep eye bags and exhausted looking expression.

That, however, wasn’t what had really caught their attention.

Both father and daughter swallowed heavily.

The man clearly wasn’t even in his twenties yet, but his entire being; his posture, stride and build, muscled but not bulky, radiated the self-assured confidence of an experienced combatant they have ever only seen in high level trainers like Gym Leaders, veteran Poke Rangers, and proof of that y on every inch of visible skin.

He was heavily scarred and three deep cw marks stretched across his abdomen, as if he had gone toe to toe with a goddamned Tyranitar and had walked away to tell the tale.

Dario Alejandro, father of Kelly Alejandro and owner of the Alejandro Construction Company had heard that the man was a retired trainer who had ever only earned a single badge during his journeys, but looking at him like that, he found it hard to believe.

Strong Pokémon were one thing, but trainers who trained themselves to such an extent along with their Pokémon were a rarity, with the greatest example probably being that one nutjob of an Elite Four from Kanto.

If he really only had a single badge, then it wasn’t because he failed his Gym run; the dark haired young man clearly just didn’t care about earning Badges.

Thank God for those huge eye bags, that greasy, nky unwashed hair and that exhausted, pasty white face that made him look like any regur ol’ office drone, Dario mused to himself, he might have thrown a tantrum if the man had been handsome on top of everything else.

“Good morning, Kelly.” once he was within talking distance, the dark-haired man greeted Kelly casually with a smooth, slightly young sounding baritone, (shit, even his voice sounded so self-assured, Dario thought to himself) as if it was perfectly normal for him to be topless in the open like this, “And You are Mr. Alejandro from Alejandro Constructions, I presume? I’m Caln Wayne.”

“Ahem - Dario Alejandro, at your service.” Dario cleared his throat and replied as they shook hands, pointedly ignoring the heat he was feeling from behind him. He was merely thankful that up close, the strange pressure radiating from the young man’s sheer momentum didn’t seem so bad anymore.

The raven-haired man, Mr. Wayne, frowned slightly as he tilted his head with curiosity, “Is Kelly alright?”

“She’s fine. Just a little overheated. We walked here you see.” The rge and tall man lied as easily as he breathed on behalf of his daughter who was doing her best to hide her red face behind his bulk.

In return, Caln simply nodded, apparently not thinking about it anymore, and gestured to show the way, “You’re here to mark out the points for construction, right? Shall we?”

As the two of them began making their way to the river behind the cabin where Caln wanted his buildings to be, he gave two quick whistle blows. His Pokémon all simultaneously stopped training seriously and began approaching them with curious expressions, especially that Gengar.

“These are Mr. Dario Alejandro and Kelly Alejandro guys,” He introduced the two strangers to his Pokémon, “They’ll be here for a while to help us build a bigger pce to live.”

The Pokémon understood and cheered loudly with chirps, grunts and roars.

Many of them loved to sleep with Caln directly rather than stay cooped up in their Poke balls like they had been doing for the past week.

Gengar was so happy, it directly draped itself on top of Caln’s head with a goofy grin while the impressive looking Dragapult attached itself to Caln’s back. Meanwhile Gabite hugged one of his legs, peeking out from behind as it danced a little jig.

“Your Pokémon are certainly affectionate.” Dario observed with a light chuckle.

Caln’s lips twitched slightly as even he felt slightly burdened by all his Pokémon crowding around them, “That’s certainly one way to put it.”

“No, no, you have to look it from my perspective. They were all so serious just now, but the moment you let them rest, they all came here straight away. It’s really cute right?” Dario said with a loud and hearty ugh.

Caln just silently nodded with another twitch of the lips.

  Cute?

No, no, no, other than Deedee, his whole party was basically a sausage fest okay?

They’re only acting like this because they were finally gonna get a house.

Well, it wasn't like he wasn't happy about it either. Living in such a cramped space had practically been torture.

Other than Gabite, whom he had accidentally dropped on its head a couple of times when it was younger, most of his Pokémon fell into the cool, stoic and tough category. Typical boys basically.

Even the trap turned out to be less than a trap than expected after he evolved into a Galde, so there wasn’t even any eye candy left.

  Not that he ever looked.

  Honest.

He felt his back start stinging as someone started burning a hole in the back of his head.

He had never regretted getting a Galde rather than a Gardevoir.

  Swear to Arceus.

  The gre slowly faded.

  Phew.

Galde had a bit of a complex.

Everyone wanted his sisters, but no one wanted him.

In short, there were a lot of perverts in this world, and he had somehow ended up with a Galde that had a chip on his shoulder the size of the goddamn Kanto region.

By the time he had realized his entire party was a sausage fest, his team’s synergy and strategies had basically already solidified, and going out of his way to catch a female Pokémon just to bance the gender scale out wasn’t worth fucking with his established routines.

Caln cpped loudly, “Alright, alright, back to training you guys.” Caln waved them off, “Do some light sparring. No moves, contact only. Galde, you’re in charge. Just make sure no ones goes too far.”

“Ga-Ga-Lade” The nearly six-foot tall Pokémon nodded seriously and let the Pokémon back training while Caln led Dario and Kelly back to his cabin.

There, he obtained a fresh shirt and a map of the property on the way there from sister Indeedee, Kelly seemed to miraculously regain her natural chattiness at that point, and then led the two of them to the pce where he thought would be good to build on.

Once they were nearer to the river, he unfurled the map and pointed over to a wide clearing devoid of any of the local sparse trees and rocks about 10 metres away from the riverbank, “I was thinking of this pce. What do you think?”

Dario hmmmed and hawwed as he walked around, poking and sniffing the ground, even tasting it at one point.

After a while, he released a Medicham and the two of them began shoving sticks in the ground here and there and yanked them back and forth.

“We can work with the ground here. We’ll need to do further testing ter, but it should be fine.” He finally concluded, “I was a bit worried about the risk of floods or ground erosion because the ground is so damp and so close to the river, but we can just dig a deeper foundation. We can proceed to mark out the construction points if you’re okay with that.”

Caln just nodded, he had zero experience in construction after all, it was better to leave it up to the professionals, “Please proceed.”

Kelly and he stood back as Dario set out a bunch of sticks and markers together with brightly coloured rope.

“Take it away Medicham!” Dario called out, “Do it according to the tempte we talked about!”.

Medicham focused and the whole set glowed the same bright blue as Medicham’s eyes. The sticks buried themselves into the ground at set distances and the ropes tied themselves to each stick.

Calln watched in fascination as the ropes and sticks began to rapidly form a real life 3D outline of the building youts before they pnted themselves in the ground.

“It’s great that you didn’t make any changes.” Dario mused as he watched Medicham work, “We can just do it like this. If we didn’t, we’d have to make a lot of changes and then Medicham would have to memorize a whole new set of youts.”

Caln tilted his head at that, “Why not just follow the original tempte, then make any adjustments you need with additional sticks and ropes? That way you wouldn’t need Medicham to memorize entire new youts. Just follow the original and customize from there.”

  Dario went silent.

  Kelly facepalmed.

Even Medicham stared at them, radiating incredulousness.

“Did I… say something wrong?” Caln asked awkwardly, “I’m no expert, so maybe there’s a reason why you do it the way you do?”

“Ahem…” the rge man coughed delicately, “Ye-yes, there’s a reason we do it like this. That aside, young master, you sure have a lot of money. Why do you even need an extra mansion when you’re already building a cabin? You pnning on moving your whole family here?”

  Young master?

Being respectful all of a sudden is fine, but can your topic change be any more obvious? Caln ridiculed the older man mentally but kept his polite tone, “The mansion is actually for my ghost Pokémon. They like pces like that.”

“Oh… you’re a Ghost Pokémon expert huh? That’s amaz-hold up.” Dario spun around and did a double take as he stared at him incredulously, “You’re building a mansion just for ghost Pokémon? It’s not for people to live in?”

  “Yesss?”

“You’re gonna break down a brand-new ass mansion and make it look haunted just for your Ghost Pokémon to live in?” Dario repeated dumbly.

“Well, it’s not just for them.” Caln hedged, he actually pnned on expanding it further, but there was no need for the local contractor to know about that.

Not knowing Caln’s thoughts, Dario and Kelly could only wonder in amazement at the young man’s ridiculous use of money. Building an entire mansion just for Pokémon, while he himself pnned to stay in a modest two floor cabin.

Was this how all rich big city trainers acted? How luxurious.

This guy’s a total big fish, wasn’t he?

After some more discussion, Caln added two more warehouses and a greenhouse off to the side, resulting in a U-shaped formation next to the river. The cabin was neatly situated in the middle, the mansion and the dojo on its right and left respectively.

Dario would ter on build a fountain in the middle to decorate the area.

The green house and the warehouses would be located further away, near the cabin he was currently living in that would be converted into either a storage shed or a temporary pce to live in.

The older man had originally discouraged him from counting his eggs before they hatched. In his words, there was no point in building not one, but two warehouses before he was even sure he would need all that storage space, but Caln had simply said it didn’t matter.

Dario was once again reminded that this youth, was quite the big fish.

The Berry trees would be pnted starting from cabin and stretch until the end of the property.

Dario would also install a stone brick road leading from the cabin and mansion to the spot that would become the main gate in the future.

All of that, however, would only be done after he installed a 7-foot-tall wood and iron fence around the property line.

“Alright, if you’re okay with this, we’ll go back, do the soil suitability testing to find out exactly how deep we need to dig for a foundation and then calcute the total materials and bour cost needed. That will take about a week, and then we can discuss the final figures. Once you’ve approved and signed that, we can begin work within 3 business days.” Dario stated officiously.

Once they had shaken on it, the two of them left carrying various soil samples.

Pokémon were a marvel, Caln noted. As far as he knew, back in his world, if the soil wasn’t suitable for construction, and you would only find out after various complicated tests, and it wasn’t suitable, then they had to change spots.

But here, all you needed to do was feed the soil to some Ground Pokémon, and they would be able to tell you immediately. And even if the soil wasn’t suitable, there were plenty of Ground, Steel and Grass Pokémon who could fix that for you nice and easy.

Dario had expined that in the worse case scenario, he would have a Golem come and jump around to compact the ground, or a Conkeldurr would pnt some steel pilrs deep into the ground and have one of his Grass Pokémon use Ingrain on it to root and tighten the ground around it.

As expected of a professional construction worker.

He went back to his Pokémon to watch them spar.

Typically, their daily routine would be a lot more strenuous, involving full on combat assisted by his two Indeedee, but without the right equipment or space, some simple spars to improve their combat instincts were all they could do for now.

When the heat became unbearable, he called them back for lunch. There was no point training any further in this kind of temperature.

He retrieved his walking stick from the cabin, sighing with some relief from the pain in his knees and began helping the Indeedees divide everything onto ptes, then the twelve of them crowded around on the cabin’s porch to eat their lunch, more eggs, steak, some Berries and bananas in the sweltering heat.

Thankfully, mid-way through lunch it began to rain, and the temperature cooled down significantly after that.

Once everyone had zed around a bit, he recalled them into their Poke balls because it was making the cabin too cramped, especially with the stack of boxes that had arrived while he had been Dario and Kelly.

“Did the Squawkabillies say anything?” Caln inquired.

“Dee dee!” ‘They haven’t seen or heard of any news about extra rge Pokémon or shiny crystal towers.’ Brother Indeedee replied.

Caln could only heave a sigh and shrugged, well even if there was news of a Titan Pokémon somewhere, with only one main battler left on his team, he wouldn’t have the confidence to go and fight it any way.

He looked at the boxes and counted them, “Four for the blending machines, ten, no eleven, for the Berries right?”

Indeedee nodded, “Dee,” ‘200 Berries of each type per box, for a total of 10 types of Berries, they added 20 of each Berry as a bonus for the blending machines as well.’

“Ooh, that’s not bad.” Caln happily limped over to the boxes and rolled up his sleeves excitedly, finally, it was time for him to properly test out his brand new system. He had been waiting for this since yesterday due to the limited amount of Berries he had on hand. He might not have looked particurly impatient, but he had practically been simmering with anxiety under the surface until now.

After all the boxes had been opened, there was barely any space leftover to even walk around the studio style cabin. He even had to put the blending machines on his bed since there wasn’t enough space left on the one table in the cabin.

To start, he started sorting through the Berries by type with the help of his Indeedees. By the time he was done, there were nearly ten separate mounds of Berries.

More than he expected, to be honest.

Even if he had ordered a full set of Berries, he knew they wouldn’t have every single type of Berry in existence. At best, they would have the more uncommon ones. There was no way they would have rarer ones like Enigma Berries and the stat raising Berries in stock, much less golden or silver Berries.

But that was fine, with these many Berries on hand, there would be more than enough for him to experiment on for quite some time.

Then bancing two notebooks on his p, he began with the most basic of Berries, the Oran Berry.

He inspected one, squeezed it a little to see how it felt and then ate it.

In the first book, he documented everything into a crudely drawn excel table. From the colour, both inside and out, how it felt; firm, plump and juicy, and even how the specific sections tasted

Then he set aside the control Berries, 3 Oran Berries and began blending them carefully, maintaining a consistent speed throughout the experiment. At the same time, he expertly used his Psychic ability to peel, slice, dice, mash, pulp and strain even more Oran Berries.

When that was done, he mentally slid two normal Berry and one peeled Oran Berry into another blending machine and began to blend that as well. On the third machine, he blended two normal Oran Berries and one sliced Oran Berry. On the fourth, it was two normal Oran Berries and one diced Oran Berry.

After that, he repeated the pattern, but this time with 2 peeled Oran Berries and 1 normal Oran Berry.

The results were meticulously documented according to his system; name, fvour, Pokemon type and description.

  Yes, he had OCD.

  Why do you ask?

His particur condition had even helped him quite a bit in his day-to-day job as a data analyst.

His superiors loved how meticulous and thorough he had been, though that didn’t stop them from thoroughly exploiting him as evidenced by all those 48-hour shifts for below minimum wage. Really, it was practically a miracle he hadn’t died of a heart attack before thirty.

His colleagues on the other hand…

Well, let’s just say it seemed like he was destined to remain unpartnered in this life as well.

Caln Wayne, singleton extraordinaire with a miraculous fifty years of bachelorhood at the ripe old age of twenty.

Oh shit. He had finished using the Oran Berries.

Wait really? That fast? Two hundred of them?

  Crap, he needed more.

  MORE BERRIES.

  THOUSANDS OF BERRIES.

Two Indeedee watched silently in worry as their trainer slowly descended into insanity before their very eyes, quietly muttering incomprehensible nonsense to himself while he madly blended Berries with a wild look in his eyes, going as far as to use his Psychic ability to simultaneously use all four blending machines at the same time.

‘Sh-should we call Mama?’ Sister Indeedee asked worriedly as poke blocks slowly began stacking up in a corner in neatly belled sections.

‘…. We might need to bring Aunt Chansey here as well.’ Brother Indeedee seriously replied.
